TRAKTOR KONTROL S8 is Native Instruments’ flagship DJ controller with high-res deck displays, touch-sensitive controls, dedicated Remix Deck controls, and an integrated soundcard with expansive connectivity. Can I use TRAKTOR KONTROL S8 without a computer?
The S8 also works as a full-featured standalone mixer. This means you can use the mixer’s 4 analog channels and filters with turntables, CDJs, or any other analog device without a computer. However, using the S8 to control TRAKTOR PRO software on a computer will reveal its full power.
Can I use the S8 without a power supply unit?
Because the innovative features found on TRAKTOR KONTROL S8 demand more power than an average hardware controller, it can’t be used without a connected power supply unit.

Does TRAKTOR KONTROL S8 work with TRAKTOR DJ?
Though it isn’t possible to control TRAKTOR DJ directly with the S8, you can run the audio signal from the output of your iPhone, iPad, or any other external audio source through one of the S8’s mixer channels.
Can I use the S8 as a MIDI controller for other software?
Yes, the TRAKTOR KONTROL S8 can also be used as a controller for any software that supports MIDI. Please note though, that the displays only work with TRAKTOR PRO 3 software.
Can I change the default TRAKTOR PRO 3 mapping for the S8?
The default S8 mapping is hardcoded and cannot be altered. You can however make your own user mapping to use instead and toggle between the two with SHIFT+BROWSE.
Can I use TRAKTOR KONTROL S8 with other TRAKTOR controllers such as the F1?
The S8 is designed to be the most comprehensive all-in-one DJ controller and already controls everything in TRAKTOR. You can, however, use it alongside other controllers. Adding an F1 for example means you don't have to switch between deck types on the S8 – allowing you to play Remix Decks and loops simultaneously.
What are Stems?
Stems is a new format for music. A Stem file is an open, multi-channel audio file that contains a track split into four musical elements –bass, drums, vocals, and melody for example. TRAKTOR PRO 3 remains the most advanced incarnation of TRAKTOR. It’s used by professionals worldwide on a daily basis and will continue to be our flagship DJ software. TRAKTOR DJ 2 and TRAKTOR PRO 3 will therefore be developed and updated in tandem in the coming years.
How do I power the S2 when DJing with the iPad app?
You can use a USB charger to power the S2 with the included USB cable, and hook up the iPad to the iOS port of the S2 with its lightning cable. If you want to charge your iPad while DJing we recommend using the Native Instruments Power Supply (18W) to power the S2 directly, while connecting the iPad with its cable to the iOS port of the S2. You can also use a mobile battery pack or speaker with a USB output to power the S2 for a truly mobile setup.
How do I connect my iPad Pro 3rd generation to my S2 hardware?
You can connect your iPad Pro to TRAKTOR KONTROL S2 using an MFI-certified USB C to USB A cable.
Will TRAKTOR DJ 2 work with my controller?
The TRAKTOR KONTROL S2 MK3, TRAKTOR KONTROL S3, TRAKTOR KONTROL Z1, TRAKTOR AUDIO 2 MK2, and any other audio interface will be supported. We plan on supporting more controllers in the future.
